I remember a certain private music tracker from a few years ago that made a strict rule about only having a "nice" avatar. Nothing sexual, weird, political, dark, and so on. Ok, that basically was an infringement on personal liberty, but I actually kind of support that (I am rather right wing after all )

On one hand (pun not intended) you have liberty with some people a bit irritated, on the other hand, you have the smallest amount of authoritarianism, but it brings instant resolution of conflict. No-one is offended by an avatar of (insert non offensive image)
