#Champs2025: Edwin Allen’s Tashana Godfrey hunts for repeat gold
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Edwin Allen High’s Tashana Godfrey, last year’s Class Four 70m hurdles champion, is on the hunt for back-to-back gold medals after she led qualifying for the semi-finals of the Class Three girls’ 80m hurdles on Friday’s morning session of the 115th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
Godfrey ran 11.15 seconds (1.7m/s) to win her first round race and will be accompanied by her teammate Macaela Gordon who ran 11.31 seconds (1.0m/s) to win her heat.
They are followed by Hydel High’s Annieka Carnegie, who ran 11.40 seconds (0.2m/s), Wolmer’s Girls’ Jadea Harris- 1.47 seconds (1.1m/s) and Shalomi Berry of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy-11.50 seconds (1.7m/s).
The Immaculate Conception pair of Ayanna Blake and Niara McLeod also made progress to the semi-finals set for later in the day.
In the girls’ Class Four 70m hurdles first round, Philipia James of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy ran 10.80 seconds (1.0m/s) to lead the qualifiers and is followed by Odainna Creary of Wolmer’s Girls- 10.84 seconds (1.6m/s), Shanice Williams of St Jago High- 10.88 seconds (0.6m/s), Amoya Howell of Edwin Allen-10.89 seconds (1.5m/s) and Malaisha Shirley of Convent of Mercy Alpha Academy -10.90 seconds (1.6m/s).
