Aldi
Key Takeaways
- The fan-loved Racine Danish Kringle is back at Aldi for a limited time.
- The Kringle is available in both almond and raspberry flavors.
If you’re a Trader Joe’s lover, you probably know just when the store brings back one of its most popular bakery items, the Almond Kringle. It’s the variety that the store sells during the winter holidays, replacing the pumpkin-caramel flavor it offers in the fall.
What is a Kringle, you ask? It’s an oval-shaped Danish flaky pastry with fillings such as fruits, nuts, custard, or cheese. While the pastry is sold year-round, it’s particularly trendy around Christmas—even its name lends itself to Christmas.
However, with Easter quickly approaching, Kringle lovers will be excited to learn that the Kringle is making a rare spring appearance—but not at Trader Joe's. The popular Danish Kringle is returning to Aldi in two flavor varieties.
Aldi’s Danish Kringles From Racine, Wisconsin
As of April 2, Aldi's Kringles, priced at $6.99 each, are officially back on shelves as a limited-time find.
You can buy an almond version at Aldi (just like Trader Joe’s) or a raspberry version. Or—and this seems like the most brilliant move—buy both.
Aldi might be the only store selling the seasonal Kringle this time of year, but it brings these same products back during the holidays. So, at a fraction of the price as Trader Joe's, you might want to take note when December rolls around.
Racine Danish Kringles is a third-generation bakery in Racine, Wisconsin specializing in Kringles. The bakery that makes the Kringle that Trader Joe’s sells, O&H Danish Bakery, is also located in Racine. Coincidence? No. The city is known as “the Kringle capital of the world.” In the early 1900s, according to Wisconsin’s Wausau Daily Herald, many Danish settlers immigrated to southern Wisconsin, bringing their Kringle tradition. Today, several bakeries in Racine are known for baking the pastry.
"These Kringles are very, very popular. [We] only [get them] during Christmas, but we have them for Easter [this year]," TikTok user @tams.time posted.
"I got one at Christmas, ate the whole thing in a few days, went back for another, they were gone! I'm going to get 3," a TikToker commented on the video.
Is one flavor better than the other? That’s a personal decision. “Ate almost half a raspberry tonight,” one person commented on an Instagram post, while another made their preference known with “Definitely almonds!”
At $6.99, you may want to head to Aldi and buy both to decide for yourself. But, you'd better act fast because, as an Aldi Find, once they're gone, they're gone.
